COVID-19 is a “singularity event” in that it renders all previous models about the future inaccurate. In our first session, Dr. Salim Ismail, author of Exponential Organizations and Chairman of the ExO Foundation, will join Citi Private Bank’s Chief Innovation Officer, Phil Watson, and David Bailin, Chief Investment Officer, Citi Private Bank, to discuss what the future looks like in terms of the economy, new technologies, new institutions and the geopolitical challenges that need to be overcome.
Salim is the best-selling author of Exponential Organizations, a sought-after business strategist, and a serial entrepreneur, having founded technology companies including Confabb, Pub Concepts, and Ångströ, which was acquired by Google in 2010. He led Brickhouse, Yahoo!’s internal incubator, and was recently named an XPRIZE Foundation Board member. Salim is also Founding Executive Director of Singularity University; Chairman of ExO Works; Founder of The ExO Foundation; an Aion Advisory Board member; and General Partner of Rokk3r Fuel ExO Venture Fund.

David Bailin is Managing Director, Chief Investment Officer for Citi Private Bank. In this capacity, David acts as a single focal point for Investment Management, Investment Research and Client Investment Practice. He ensures the best integration of our asset allocation, research and portfolio management teams and offers his perspectives on the markets.
David joined Citi in 2009 as the Global Head of Managed Investments and was promoted to Global Head of Investments in October of 2017. Since joining the Private Bank, he has attracted and retained a highly talented, diverse senior executive and investment management team. David designed the architecture of the global managed investments platform, including its Citi Investment Management unit, a leading global investment management organization, and the bank’s distinctive private equity, real estate, hedge fund and traditional investment teams. Additionally, David was responsible for operational due diligence, portfolio asset management, asset allocation modelling, and product innovation.
Philip is the Head of the Global Investment Lab and Chief Innovation Officer for Citi Private Bank.
He has approximately 20 years financial experience mostly at Citi where he has held diverse roles across the Institutional client group. For the last 15 years he has been at the Private Bank.

The Innovation office supports clients by sharing insights and perspectives on key trends and emerging technologies - connecting our clients to helpful resources from across Citi's innovation network. Phil chairs the Growth Board, participates on accelerator programs and other initiatives designed to improve the client experience.
Jeffrey is a multi-modal educator and a top-rated moderator of immersive executive education programs and international summits for Singularity University since 2017. He has also been featured as a guest lecturer and workshop leader at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford, and the Empowerment Summit (at ECAL in Lausanne), and Brand Minds 2019 in Bucharest. Previously, Jeffrey spent a decade building learning and development solutions, consulting on a couple of e-learning startups, and designing and delivering experiential youth leadership programs. He’s a social scientist by training (UC Berkeley, UT Austin) and a future-focused educator--with abiding interests in leadership, human ecology & complexity--by calling. He believes the future is too important to be left to the futurists, and he wants to get you involved.
