'The joy and challenge of understanding Contemporary art is like learning a new language - it requires both focused research and an open mind.'
Betsy Bickar specializes in Post-War and Contemporary art, with additional strengths in Latin American, American and Modern art. She brings over twenty years of knowledge and experience to assist clients in private sales and in building and managing their collections.
Prior to joining Citi in 2014, Betsy held positions at Pace Gallery and Andrea Rosen Gallery, where she was involved in both primary and secondary market sales and the curation of scholarly exhibitions. She founded an exhibition space in San José, Costa Rica, organizing exhibitions locally and internationally. Her gallery gained international recognition, and she participated in Volta New York and Pulse Miami art fairs. She began her career working in an important private collection and foundation with an emphasis on Latin American art and Modern masters. Betsy later spent two years in Mexico, where she gained fluency in Spanish, consulted for a contemporary gallery, and provided translations for the Government of the State of Yucatán.
In the course of her career, Betsy has consulted for various entities and has advised private and institutional clients from around the world on acquisitions. She has contributed writing to art historical publications and often provides insight into the art market for various publications such as Bloomberg, The Art Newspaper, Barron’s Penta and Family Office Magazine. In 1997 Betsy graduated magna cum laude with a dual degree in Art History and German language from The Ohio State University.
